Usually, I don’t like to talk about technique, because I think it ruins the magic. The magic is also in the viewer’s mind: he/she contributes building the story. So when you start throwing technical terms, it stops the story. The reason I’d like to talk about technique this time is because this photo is not digital, it’s film, which I mainly do.

Sorry, I decided to stick with what I believe in. But if you have a technical question, please email me, I’ll be happy to answer you.

Blue roofs

A view through my window in Paris, France.

Sidewalk

A dark sun casts a blistering shadow on the sidewalk.

Airports

Paris, Madrid…. I don’t remember what airport was that… but I do remember a story, a trip, and the people I met…

January 1st

I was looking around to take some pictures. Nice weather for a ‘January 1st’ in the morning, but grey sky… Then I started looking at my coffee cup, took a little series. Good but not satisfying. Then, I looked inside the cup. And that is what I discovered.

Marseille

I was there last summer. Walking up the hills, alone, while the Sun was setting. I was late, and it’s a long walk from the port. When I arrived, it was too late, and I am quite happy about that.

Ashes

Here, I think this photo is a direct reference to my new drawing project called ‘The Pictures I Didn’t Take’ (click). Because I usually don’t take this kind of still life. But since I started the drawing project, I focus my eye on things I actually wouldn’t take. And now there is a back and forth movement between the pen and the camera, one is feeding the other…

Eiffel Tower

I never go by the Eiffel Tower. But it seems that lately, I “have” to go there for some reasons… And I find it very difficult to take a picture of this monument: it has been taken so many times…. So when I am there, I try to find a good angle, but this time, the Sky helped me.

Self-portrait.

Once in a while, it’s also the photographer’s job to take…. a self-portrait. I have staged one a long time ago, but usually I do it when the conditions are here. I see the picture, and just take it. Just a few shots. Maybe I should stage one soon…

Untitled. (Paris Fashion Week - October 2011 - Vanessa Bruno)

Another picture I took at the show. It’s backstage, and I love the contrast between the old wall painting, and the metal elements, and the reframing they do.
I also had another image with girls seated by the painting, but unfortunately it doesn’t work very well…

After The Show. (Paris Fashion Week - October 2011 - Vanessa Bruno)

I took this photo after the show. I had been hired to make a “behind the scenes/making of” film for Sunday Riley: the make-up and skincare sponsor for the Vanessa Bruno show.
Here you can see another video I directed/edited last season : http://vimeo.com/22750156.
It’s been a great moment, and both Vanessa Bruno and Sunday Team are fantastic and so easy to work with.
